It was a slow, painful write, but The Darkness and the Night: Book Two is officially done. Thank God ... and thank the Muses; I wouldn't want to have to write that one from scratch again, and I don't look at all forward to writing the screenplay, but this might truly be my best work to date. It is wholly a work of dark fantasy ... and this one is very, very dark ... but it is also a deep philosophical piece, with a number of literary devices at play.
Karen's character is a mirror that reflects the dilemmas, judgments, and small joys that make human beings ... well, human beings. While Karen's character is clearly fictitious, living in a blatantly fictitious world, her lessons learned and difficult truths can apply to the masses on numerous levels. It would be my hope that readers of this series might find the stories entertaining, above all else ... but I hope that some might also walk away feeling enriched, challenged, and perhaps even with one foot hanging of the proverbial box. Deep philosophy in an erotic dark fantasy? you ask ... well, I am a little twisted.... ;-)

It has been an interesting past couple of weeks, to say the very least. About two weeks ago one of my younger sisters finally earned her Bachelor of Arts in English, graduating summa cum laude, and a good number of family members joined up both here and in my sister's home, in the next state over, to celebrate the occasion. Of course, when my family gets together for anything, due to the volatile nature of the group, there is always due reason for concern. This time was no different. |
