Synergy

Synergy has been on my mind a lot, lately.  I have been so fortunate with my writing, this year, and much of that is because of the amazing talents with whom I've had the pleasure of working.  It is indescribable, the feeling that comes with creating a unique and worthwhile work with someone else; I'm so gracious to have experienced that synergy with not one person this last year, but three.

When Ed first approached me with the task of putting together a workable draft for Ted Chiang's "Hell is the Absence of God," I knew that I was being given the chance of a lifetime.  Ted Chiang is a brilliant storyteller, and the novella is worth every award it has received.  The ideas Ed had, combined with my screenwriting instincts, proved to make for some amazing drafts, and I feel confident that we'll have a phenomenal script, when we finally agree that it is finished.  Collaborating with Ed has been a great experience, and working on the script has been a wild, thought-provoking, and spiritual ride.

I had the pleasure of working with Lori Perkins this year, as well, and the experience was no less synergistic.  Lori had a way of seeing the vision I had set out for my story, and then adding to it a sensual richness that it had previously been lacking.  She is a fantastic editor, and I hope to work with her again.

Last, but definitely not the least, I am grateful for all that Tommy has added to my work.  He, too, is able to see a broader view of what I write, removing what needs to be removed and prompting me to add exactly what I need to add.  His talents take my writing to the next level, making me the writer I am today.

Thank you.  I feel like I am a part of a unique team, and I'm so grateful to be among such wonderful talents.
